If you're reading Ottawa movers' reviews, you're doing the right thing — and also walking into a hall of mirrors. Reviews can be bought, begged, cherry-picked, and weaponized by competitors; they can also be the most honest signal in the industry. This page teaches the difference: how to read a mover's review profile for real patterns, what no review can tell you, and the verification steps — written quotes, addresses, coverage — that protect your move more than any star rating.
We'll be direct about ourselves, too: judge Discount Moving & Storage the same way this page teaches you to judge everyone. A company confident in its work should hand you the magnifying glass.
Reading reviews for patterns, not stars
Ignore the average for a moment and read the recent one- and two-star reviews. Every busy mover has some — the question is what they're about. Complaints about price changes on moving day, damaged items with no resolution, and crews that didn't show are structural red flags. Complaints about traffic delays or a customer's own packing are weather. Patterns of the first kind, repeated across months, describe the company; isolated storms don't.
Then read the five-stars with the same care. Specific reviews — names of crew members, streets, situations handled well — read real. Fifty reviews saying "great service!!!" in the same week read purchased. Volume matters too: a mover with hundreds of reviews over years has a track record; one with thirty perfect reviews from last month has a campaign.
What reviews can't tell you (verify these directly)
Reviews rarely mention the things that decide your move: whether quotes are inventory-based and written, what coverage actually applies, and whether the crew that arrives is the company's own. Verify those yourself — it takes one phone call. Ask for the business address (ours: 2285 St. Laurent Blvd, Unit A10), the quote in writing, and the coverage terms. A company that handles those questions well will almost certainly handle your furniture well.
Also verify the boring infrastructure: a phone answered by the company, a website with real service detail — ours covers everything from piano moving to office relocations — and answers that match the reviews' claims. Our guide to comparing Ottawa moving companies turns all of this into a checklist.
