A long-distance move is a different animal from a cross-town hop. The pricing model changes, the schedule stretches over days instead of hours, and your household travels hundreds of kilometres — so the planning has to be exact. Discount Moving & Storage runs long-distance movers out of Ottawa every month, to Toronto, Montreal, and destinations across Ontario and beyond.
The core promise is simple: a flat quote built from your real inventory, a dedicated load that isn't mixed with strangers' freight, and a delivery window we confirm before the truck leaves Ottawa — not a vague "sometime next week."
How long-distance pricing works
Local moves price by time; long-distance moves price by inventory and distance. We build your quote from a detailed walkthrough — in person, by video, or by a room-by-room phone inventory — and the result is a flat price for the move as described. If your inventory changes materially before moving day, we adjust the quote with you in advance, never at the destination door.
What's in the price: the truck, fuel, crew at both ends, furniture protection, disassembly and reassembly, and standard coverage. What's priced separately, always disclosed upfront: packing services, storage holds, and specialty items like pianos. Our guide to local vs. long-distance moving explains the two models side by side.
Routes we run from Ottawa
The busiest corridors are Highway 401 west to Toronto and the GTA (about 450 km, roughly 4.5–5 hours of driving) and Highway 417/20 east to Montreal (about 200 km, roughly 2 hours). We also run Kingston, Belleville, and the Highway 7 corridor regularly, and quote moves further afield — the rest of Ontario, the Maritimes, and western Canada — on request.
Route-specific pages go deeper: Ottawa to Toronto, Toronto to Ottawa, and Ottawa to Montreal each cover drive timing, delivery windows, and what to have ready at the far end.
